On Saturday afternoon, the Steinhaus at Alpine Village in Torrance hosted their 3rd Annual Euro Bierfest; unlike their other numerous beer festivals all the beer for this event will came from various parts of Europe. For an event that was not guaranteed an appearance in 2016, the Euro Bierfest was very well attended with people still coming in when we were heading out.
A few of the 30+ beers being poured included Lava Smoked Imperial Stout by Ölvisholt Brugghús, Old Engine Oil by Harviestoun Brewery, Timmermans Lambicus Blanche by Brewery John Martin & Brewery Timmermans and Petrus 50/50 by Brouwerij De Brabandere (Bavik). They also had Hobgoblin, Chimay Rouge (Première) and Chimay Bleue (Grande Réserve), Super, 3 Monts Classic Golden Ale, Duchesse de Bourgogne and Rodenbach Grand Cru. As a special treat, BraufactuM who had their Progusta American IPA on the schedule also brought some BraufactuM Arrique barleywine that was left over from the Firestone Walker Invitational last weekend. I am not going to say I told you so, but I was not kidding when I suggested that Chad Hazen’s prior beer tasting benefits for the Richstone Family Center were better than any beer festival I have attended; and that includes the Firestone Invitational. Yesterday’s rare beer tasting at the Steinhaus at Alpine Village was no exception; everyone had the same comment as soon as they walked into the area set aside for us, where do I start?
Shortly after the event started, a Craft Beer Guy follower walked up to thank me for promoting the event as he had had “Heady Topper, Westvleteren 12, Rare Barrel, and Dark Lord all in the first 15 minutes.” Try doing that at your favorite beer festival.
As you look through the photos you are going to notice lots and lots of great beer and lots of big smiles. People really could not help themselves; it really was like an adult version of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, with all the attendees having won a Golden Ticket. Continue reading
As I announced last week, local craft beer hoarder Chad Hazen, in conjunction with King Harbor Brewing Company and Steinhaus Restaurant and Beerhall at Alpine Village, will be holding his third in a series of rare craft beer tastings with 90% of the proceeds going to benefit the Richstone Family Center in Hawthorne.
I have mentioned numerous times that Hazen’s prior events have been better than any beer festival I have attended to date; now I have obtained a list of the beers that will be there so you can see for yourself. Just take a look at Chad’s Beer Cellar Bottle List Continue reading
These photos were taken at the 2nd Annual L.A. Local Craft Beer & Artisanal Food Fest which was held at the Steinhaus at Alpine Village in Torrance on Saturday afternoon. The event featured 31 Los Angeles area craft breweries and maybe a dozen artisanal food vendors from the LA area.
L.A. Local provided the first opportunity for most of the attendees to try brews from several breweries that have opened within the last year like Scholb Premium Ales, Dry River Brewing, Brouwerij West, HopSaint, Iron Triangle, Mumford Brewing, State Brewing and Honest Abe. Other breweries in attendance included Three Weavers, Port Town, Smog City, Monkish, Phantom Carriage, The Dudes’, Claremont Craft Ales, Ohana, Enegren, California 101 Cider House, King Harbor, Strand, Absolution, MacLeod Ale Brewing and several others. This event will be pretty similar to their inaugural event in that all the beer and food will come from the Los Angeles area and you will get unlimited pours of beer and unlimited samplings. Just so there are no surprises, many of the food vendors make jams or sauces, so you get a spoonful. You are probably not going to fill up on the food, but there were some tasty items there.
