With a reported 75 local breweries and counting, this day promises to be a blast with local food trucks, games, live music by Red Hot Tribute Band, and lots of local, fresh, independent craft beer. A Final Reminder – South Bay Beer & Wine Festival!

So, this Sunday is Mother’s Day, you probably do not want to forget that. The following Sunday is May 19 which is the date of the 11th South Bay Beer & Wine Festival and I am here to suggest you definitely do not want to miss that; in fact a ticket might be the ideal Mother’s Day present, depending on the mom.

I will admit that I might not typically write a second article about an upcoming event, but I have been seeing Facebook updates about the event that actually caused me to text Beer Paper’s Daniel “DFD” Drennon to ask if he was still a beer consultant for the event; it was so good I had to compliment him, and show you who is “on tap” to be pouring. For my ease, they are in alphabetical order. Continue reading

11th South Bay Beer & Wine Festival Returns May 19

It is that time of year again; specifically when the arguably best craft beer festival in the South Bay returns to Rolling Hills, and that is the 11th South Bay Beer & Wine Festival which will be held Sunday, May 19, 2024, from 1:00 to 5:00 PM at Ernie Howlett Park.

Proudly presented by the Rotary Clubs of Palos Verdes Peninsula, San Pedro, and South Bay Sunrise, this non-profit event puts 100% of the monies raised go back into helping families in the South Bay and Harbor areas.

I have to admit, I have been going back and forth about what I wanted to say about this event because I started attending it in 2015 when they had it at the South Coast Botanical Gardens. While it was a great venue, it was pretty obvious that they were going to outgrow it. That was their second annual festival and I was told they had about 700 attendees. The following year it was moved to Ernie Howlett Park and they had closer to 1,500 attendees. It was a good move. Continue reading

South Bay Beer & Wine Festival Sponsors

On this cold, wet, and blustery morning it is time to start thinking of warm, spring afternoons consisting of local craft beer, local wines and spirits, good food and music wafting through the air. Of course, I am thinking ahead to the 10th Annual South Bay Beer & Wine Festival which is returning to Ernie Howlett Park in Rolling Hills Estates, Sunday, May 21, 2023 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM.

It is no secret that I feel this is one of the best craft beer festivals within 100 miles of here, and don’t think it is any secret why. With somewhere close to 100 breweries, wineries, and local restaurants participating, you can be sure there is something for everyone. Continue reading

South Bay Beer & Wine Festival Returns May 22

I am happy to announce that after a two year hiatus brought upon by the COVID pandemic, that the South Bay Beer & Wine Festival is returning to Ernie Howlett Park, in Rolling Hills Estates on Sunday, May 22 from noon until 5:00 PM.

Billed as the 9th Annual South Bay Beer & Wine Festival (the 7th and 8th being the cancelled years), there will be a few changes this year, the primary ones being that only 600 tickets will be sold (half the usual number), and every ticket will be a VIP ticket. This means that everyone gets in at noon (an hour early), and the VIP tent has been removed, so the spirits (hard alcohol) are available to all. VIP parking will be available for all as there will be no shuttles this year.

While there are some changes, there is plenty that is not changing. For example: Continue reading

3 Comedians and Craft Beer at Laughs By Volume 5

Regular readers of this site probably recall that I have been promoting Laughs By Volume since January. While the first four events have each been better that the previous one, I know that many of you have not attended primarily because of the venues being in DTLA or Buena Park; I am happy to announce that Laughs By Volume 5 will be held in Redondo Beach!

That’s right; Laughs By Volume 5 will be held at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center on Sunday, October 16 from 2:00-5:00 PM. This event will feature at least 40 craft beers and three comedians; Cisco, Jonesy & Julian Michael. Naturally, I have a discount code for you.

This event is perfect for those of you that enjoy going to comedy shows and enjoy craft beer. When you go to a comedy club you can count on a $25.00 cover charge with a two drink minimum; with Laughs By Volume 5 tickets are $25.00 online (before your discount), with unlimited pours of craft beer while enjoying the comedy; the past four events have been great. DoorDash Now Offering Beer Delivery in LA/OC/SD

DoorDash Now Delivers Beer!

I guess I will begin this story by telling you that this is a sponsored post, in that I am being compensated for trying out DoorDash and writing about the experience. As my regular readers have probably figured out by now, I am not going to fluff up the experience just because I am being paid to write about it.

At the end of June I received an email telling me about a relatively new startup called DoorDash. DoorDash is a service that started as an on-demand food delivery service ala Pink Dot or UberEATS; and the reason they were contacting me is that they were getting ready to include alcohol delivery in Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties and they wanted all of you to know that you can have cold, fresh, craft beer delivered to you. What was ironic (to me, anyway) was that not more than an hour earlier one of my friends was on Facebook asking someone to deliver him a beer at work; DoorDash will do just that! Continue reading

Four Sons Brewing

Four Sons Brewing – at Laughs By Volume

In what I have heard is the first craft beer event ever held in Buena Park, Laughs By Volume 4 will be held Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the Buena Park Community Center from 7:00-10:00 PM. Presented by PINT Magazine, Laughs By Volume is essentially a three hour long comedy show featuring four comedians, a foosball tournament and unlimited tastings of more than 40 craft beers; all for the very low price of $20.00 each, if you use the coupon code I have for you.

A few of the breweries that are scheduled to be poured include The Dudes’, Stone Brewing, Absolution Brewing, Four Sons, Mission Brewery, Great Beer Co, Smog City, Refuge Brewery, Timeless Pints, Anaheim Brewery, Telegraph Brewing, Pizza Port Brewing, Julian Hard Cider, Tahoe Mountain Brewing, 21st Amendment, The Lost Abbey, Bear Republic, Victory Brewing, Oskar Blues, Ska Brewing, Alesmith, Brewery Ommegang, Boulevard Brewing, Maui Brewing, Double Mountain, Brouwerij Wolf, and Sixpoint Brewery. If history is any indicator, this list will fluctuate between now and June 25. Continue reading
