“This is one of my favorite IPAs to come out of the brewery in a while,” said Brewmaster, Jeremy Kosmicki. “The hop character is aggressive with its citrus and tropical flavors and aromas while the addition of lupulin powder – rather than relying on over dry-hopping with just pellets – helps keep the grassiness in check. It has great balance and is clean, bright and refreshing.” Continue reading
These photos were taken Saturday afternoon at Brouwerij West in San Pedro, where the production brewery celebrated their fourth anniversary. The event included new beer releases, food trucks and live music.
Saturday was a very busy day in the South Bay with can releases, a soft open, and the Brouwerij West 4th Anniversary celebration. Unfortunately, I have yet to figure out how to be in multiple places at the same time, so I have to settle for being at one event at a time. To accomplish this I begin at the event furthest from my home and work my way back. That means I had to start at Brouwerij West first, which meant I got there long before the live music began. “The growth in hazy beer has been remarkable,” shares Don Oliver, Brewmaster. “We are proud to offer a hazy IPA that uses a unique mix of hops to provide the juiciness and fruit flavors that hazy fans appreciate.”
Peace, Love & Haze is a tropical delight crafted with Cashmere, Idaho Gem and Mosaic hops resulting in flavors of pineapple, guava and orange. The flavorful hazy offers consumers a smooth 6.3% ABV and 28 IBU. Continue reading
Brewmaster Don Oliver shares his thoughts on this aggressively hopped beer: “We brew a lot of big beers at Dust Bowl. Supine Mega IPA follows in the footsteps of Dump Truck of the Gods Mega IPA, but we push the beer further with a 14.4% alcohol content and a bigger hop load (85 IBU) featuring Apollo, Amarillo, Citra and Mosaic hops.”
Champagne yeast helps bring this massive IPA into the Mega category. Citrus and tropical notes fade to the background behind big notes of stone fruit. Continue reading
“Nothing says refreshment like a dry, sparkling, hop-forward IPA,” said Brewmaster, Jeremy Kosmicki. “Civilized Brut has just the right amount of bitterness and hop flavor to not overwhelm the clean and dry finish of this beer, while the high effervescence makes it feel like a party in every sip.”
“As the majority of brewers are introducing hazy, New England Style IPAs in the market, we have decided to take another road,” said President Dave Engbers. “Civilized Brut is a crystal-clear IPA that’s bursting with effervescence and elegant aromatics. Perfect for champagne and IPA aficionados alike.” Continue reading
Long-time friends and first-time collaborators, Karl Strauss and AleSmith are both known for experimenting with their small batch releases. Neither brewery had previously brewed with kveik yeast, which meant that Ryan Crisp (AleSmith’s Director of Brewery Operations & Head Brewer) and Matt Johnson (Brewmaster of Brewery Operations at Karl Strauss) were eager to jump in and experiment.
“Both Ryan and I wanted to brew a Kveik IPA. Hops are usually the star in an India Pale Ale, so it was a lot of fun to primarily focus on the yeast for this particular IPA. Kveik is really such a unique strain. We were amazed how well it fermented at higher temperatures– from 78°F to 98°F!” – Matt Johnson, Karl Strauss Brewmaster of Brewery Operations. Continue reading
Ska’s rendition of this popular beer style is a long time coming, named The Hazy IPA because it’s the recipe that Ska’s brewers determined would go in a can after many different batches. This 6.5% ABV, full-bodied New England-styled IPA is rich with juicy and citrus-forward tropical notes obtained through a variety of proprietary hopping techniques.
Unlike Ska’s other canned offerings, there’s not a character or a punny name associated with this beer style. Instead the artwork pops with bold colors and Ska’s trademark checkerboard stripe that wraps the can. “When we put all of these comic book elements together, we realized this was a good direction to ultimately refresh our entire line of beer cans,” says Ska’s co-founder and CEO Dave Thibodeau. Strawberry Gose is a tart, refreshing, slightly salty ale, with a fruity aroma. In fact, the beer won a Gold Medal at last year’s California State Fair for best gose-style ale. Therefore, the brewery decided to reintroduce the beer for 2019.
The gose-style was originally dreamt by a fan as part of a contest the brewery ran – ‘What Would You Brew?’ The winner participated in a brew day with Head Brewer Layton Cutler and the Angel City team. In the years following, it became more and more popular, where the beer became a consistent specialty can release. Continue reading
A crisp, refreshing ale brewed with pears, this beer is hopped with Perle, Tettnang, and Citra hops.Pearody’s champagne-like qualities stem from its creation as a celebratory beer for the City of Durango’s 40th Snowdown festival last year. “I get asked all the time when we’re bringing Pearody back, and now I have an answer,” says Ska Sales & Marketing Director Kristen Muraro. This beer was so popular that we decided to share it with all of our markets.”
Packed full of fresh fruit and hop flavors and sitting at a sessionable 4.5% ABV, this beer is a clutch sidekick for any winter or springtime activity.
