Introducing Far Field Beer Company

These photos were taken Wednesday afternoon, when I headed over to Lawndale to visit the soon-to-open Far Field Beer Company. Yes, you read that right; Lawndale is getting their first craft brewery and tasting room; and the SpaceX Corridor is back to having four breweries.

When I first heard that Lawndale was getting a brewery, I had to question it; for as long as I have been the Craft Beer Guy, I thought that Lawndale had some law that made it difficult, if not impossible, to open a brewery in the city. When I discovered their location, the north side of Rosecrans just west of Hawthorne, I was relatively confident that was Hawthorne. Well, apparently Lawndale does a little jog across Rosecrans for a couple blocks. So, while the post office and your GPS will tell you it is in Hawthorne, they got their Conditional Use Permit through Lawndale. Continue reading

One of the trio is Pete Mauch, head sales rep for Eureka Brewing.

In addition to the live music, and Eureka’s brews, seafood chimichangas were available from the Margi Chimichangas food truck.

Red Clay Brewing & Miura Vineyard collaboration launching coast-to-coast

Opelika, AL – Master Brewer Kerry McGinnis of Red Clay Brewing Company has partnered up with Master Sommelier Emmanuel Kemiji of Miura Vineyards to create a line of experimental brews that introduce globally inspired flavors for the world’s first ever Double Master Collaboration Beer series.

Each beer was brewed at Red Clay Brewing Company at Opelika’s first brewery in central lower Alabama. Red Clay Brewing is firmly entrenched in the south and is named after the red clay earth found in Alabama. While Miura hails from Northern California and is named after the most legendary and mythical breeder of the most famous bulls in Spain, Emmanuel Kemiji and Kerry McGinnish found a path to partnership for this new lineup of globally inspired and complex beers.

While oenobeers (beers brewed using grapes or beers aged in wine barrels) are rising in popularity, there’s never been a collaboration where a Master sommelier and a Master brewer made a canned beer together. Continue reading

Smog City Brewing 10th Anniversary Photos

These photos were taken Saturday afternoon at the Smog City Brewing Company’s 10th Anniversary celebration held at the production brewery in Torrance. It was a nicely attended event that probably had about 100 people attending during the couple of hours I was there.

Yes, Los Angeles County is still abiding by COVID protocol, but we are in the least restrictive yellow tier which allowed Smog City to throw an actual in-person event for their 10 anniversary. Yes, things were toned down a little from previous anniversary celebrations, but Smog City’s fan base was not going to let that stop them.

To commemorate the occasion, Smog City had 26 brews on draft, including their 10th Anniversary IPA, eight special bottle pours, and an anniversary flight consisting of This Sour Future (2015), Benny and the Bretts volume 1, The Nothing (2017), Buzzworthy (2016), and BBA Coffee Porter (2017). Prone Mega IPA from Dust Bowl Brewing

Dust Bowl Brewing Co. announces the release of Prone Mega IPA, the latest addition to the company’s Limited portfolio. Available in 16oz. cans and draft, Prone offers IPA fans a big 14.5% ABV and bold 85 IBU. The beer delivers sweet fruit and berry notes from a blend of Gem, El Dorado and Mosaic hops.

Known for his expertise in brewing high-alcohol beers, Brewmaster Don Oliver shares some thoughts on his latest Mega intro, “When we first released Supine Mega IPA in 2020, I had already started on the recipe for Prone. Although not originally planned for release this year, there was a lot of excitement around the Mega IPA Series, so we chose to add Prone to the lineup. The triple dry-hopped Mega IPA should satisfy the fans of big beers with huge hop character.”

Prone is expected to hit retailer shelves in April primarily in California and parts of Nevada. The bright orange and green label mimics the popular Supine label, but Prone naturally showcases tigers in the prone position. Continue reading
