These photos were taken Sunday afternoon at the HopSaint Brewing Company brewpub on 190th Street and at their new taproom, HopSaint at the Ditch, on Del Amo Boulevard where hundreds of the fans gathered to celebrate HopSaint’s 10th anniversary.
The event featured a special menu and live music at the brewpub, with a couple food popups making appearances at the taproom. If you are looking for specific photos, pages one through four were taken at the brewpub, with the balance being taken at The Ditch. Naturally, there was an anniversary beer released. These photos were taken Sunday afternoon at Ernie Howlett Park, in Rolling Hills, where close to 1,000 people gathered for the 11th South Bay Beer & Wine Festival. Presented by the Rotary Clubs of Palos Verdes Peninsula, San Pedro and Southbay Sunrise (Torrance), all proceeds fund community outreach programs within the South Bay and Harbor cities of Los Angeles.
The event featured craft beer, wine, food and spirits (for VIP ticket holders) from 100 vendors, live music, a pretty upscale souvenir tasting glass, and free parking. Combine that with an outdoor venue that includes zero asphalt, just nice, cool, green grass. It really takes advantage of our local weather. When it all comes together it becomes pretty easy to see why I have called this one of the best craft beer festivals within 100 miles. Continue reading
These photos were taken Saturday afternoon in Hawthorne, at the Common Space Brewery, where they were joined by several hundred fans as they celebrated their sixth anniversary. It was a very pleasant afternoon which included not only nice weather, but several food popups, live music, a DJ, some very nice beer, and lots of doggies.
The food options were pretty diverse, with options provided by Yakitori Cartel, Enduro Pizza, and Bootsy’s BBQ. I have to admit, I almost regretted bringing Roxy (my new dog) because I would have loved to try some of that soul food from Bootsy’s but it just would not be fair to her since she seems to have a very sensitive stomach. My loss, it looked and smelled great. Continue reading
These photos were taken Saturday evening at the 2024 El Segundo Beer, Wine & Spirits Festival, which was presented by The Zimmerman Automobile Driving Museum and the El Segundo Rotary Club. The charitable event featured local craft beer, wines from a couple wineries, spirits like vodka and tequila (that’s what I noticed anyway), and food from probably a dozen local eateries. There was also live music, a wandering magician, and a silent auction.
The breweries I noticed were El Segundo Brewing, Boardroom Brewery, Five Point Five Brewing, and Eureka Brewing. There was some amazing smells wafting around from local restaurants; I got some tasty samples from Raising Canes, Marmalade Cafe, and Mychal’s Learning Place. I was bummed that I was in a hurry because I really wanted to try a few others. Continue reading
These photos were taken Saturday afternoon at Smog City Brewing Company, in Torrance, where hundreds of friends, family, and fans gathered to celebrate Smog City’s 13th Anniversary. If you have ever attended a Smog City anniversary celebration in the past, you know that this was another very fun event.
I was there for the early portion of the event, which featured axe throwing for adults, and kids, as well as numerous food trucks/popups, pie throwing for charity, live music, the release of their 13th Anniversary IPA, and a special guest, my new dog, Roxy. Continue reading
These photos were taken early Saturday afternoon at Firestone Walker’s Venice/Marina del Rey location, The Propagator, where they celebrated The Propagator’s 8th Anniversary with a “Block Party” featuring beer and food specials, live music, a sensory challenge, and the release of their Gen-8 IPA.
I rode out there with my friend and mechanic to the craft beer stars, Mike Wondrash. We arrived shortly after they opened, and while the weather was a little brisk, with threatening skies, the outdoor patio was set up to handle the drizzle that might occur and while there were not exactly throngs in attendance, I would say a majority of them were hanging outside. These photos were taken Saturday afternoon at the Rancho Los Cerritos Historic Site, in Long Beach, where Craft Beer LB held their 3rd Annual Craft Beer LB Homebrew Invitational. The event featured a homebrew competition, a pro brewers area, food trucks, and live music. A portion of the proceeds from the event went to benefit the Rancho Los Cerritos Historic Site.
The Pro Brewers Lounge provided beers from Altar Society Brewing, Beachwood Brewing, Cheech & Chong, Cycling Frog, Ficklewood Ciderworks, ISM Brewing, La Jara Brewing, Long Beach Beer Lab, Syncopated Brewing & Ten Mile Brewing. There were 40 homebrewers competing, with the winner getting to brew their recipe at Long Beach Beer Lab. Food was available from Shady Grove BBQ, Leaf Over Beef, and Torisho. Continue reading
These photos were taken Saturday afternoon at Los Angeles Ale Works in Hawthorne, where friends, fans, and family gathered to celebrate 7ish years of brewing beer in Hawthorne. The reason they called it the “7ish” anniversary is that they actually had their grand opening in February of 2017, but as co-founder Andrew Fowler explained, moving the party back a few weeks will usually result in better weather; that policy definitely worked to their advantage yesterday.
Anyway, the very well-attended event featured live music, a myriad of food trucks, specialty drinks, a balloon artist, games for the kids, lots of cool dogs, and of course, the release of their anniversary beer, 7ish, an IPA. Continue reading
These photos were taken Saturday at Hermosa Brewing Company’s Torrance location where they had a party celebrating six years of brewing beer. I actually made two visits, the first being early in the afternoon with my friend Phil, on the way home from the Brouwerij West party. I returned a few hours later solo; those photos start on page two.
When Phil and I arrived there was still plenty of parking. They had a couple food trucks and almost as many dogs as people, which was definitely fine with me. We each had a beer and Phil got some food for his wife at which point we headed to his place. Continue reading
Proudly presented by the Rotary Clubs of Palos Verdes Peninsula, San Pedro, and South Bay Sunrise, this non-profit event puts 100% of the monies raised go back into helping families in the South Bay and Harbor areas.
I have to admit, I have been going back and forth about what I wanted to say about this event because I started attending it in 2015 when they had it at the South Coast Botanical Gardens. While it was a great venue, it was pretty obvious that they were going to outgrow it. That was their second annual festival and I was told they had about 700 attendees. The following year it was moved to Ernie Howlett Park and they had closer to 1,500 attendees. It was a good move. Continue reading
