LA Ale Works Celebrates 6ish Years

These photos were taken Saturday at Los Angeles Ale Works, in Hawthorne, where they celebrated their 6ish anniversary. The family and dog friendly event featured DJs, food, live music, a balloon artist, and an anniversary beer.

While I was there, music was provided by DJ Hash Mills and two tribute bands; The Walrus, a Beatles tribute band, and The Burning Doors, a Doors tribute band. Food was available from The Shrimp and Taco Stop, Proudly Serving LA, Cali Crizp, and La Chica Cupcakes. The Ballusionist provided balloon art for the youngsters and the young at heart. Strand Brewers Club Meeting at Scholb Premium Ales

These photos were taken Wednesday evening at Scholb Premium Ales in Torrance, where they hosted the March meeting of the Strand Brewers Club, a local home brewing club. The meeting was the first I have attended in quite a while, so among other things, it gave me the opportunity to see some old friends as well as meeting the new officers of the club.

After everyone had a chance to grab a Scholb brew, Michael, the new club president had everyone introduce themselves then they sat down to business, which included discussion about their upcoming monster brew that will be held at Scholb, the upcoming Southern California Homebrewers Festival, as well as the venue for their next few monthly meetings and their monthly Final Friday gathering. Pink Boots Brew at Eureka Brewing

These photos were taken Wednesday afternoon at Eureka Brewing Company in Gardena, where they participated in the Pink Boots Collaboration Brew Day; the Pink Boots Society’s largest fundraiser. The Pink Boots Collaboration Brew Day typically is held on International Women’s Day, but really can be done any day of the year. The “Pink Boots Blend” is made up of hops from Yakima Chief Hops and a grain bill from Country Malt Group. Breweries around the globe purchase the proprietary blend, with the proceeds going to the Pink Boots Society.

Each brewery usually tweaks the recipe to brew the beer best suited for their client base. Eureka is brewing an IPA, Together We Hop, which will be ready for drinking in about three weeks. Continue reading

Brouwerij West 7th Anniversary Photos

These photos were taken Saturday afternoon at Brouwerij West, in San Pedro, where they celebrated their seventh anniversary. The event featured a morning brunch, food trucks, live music, a DJ, a beer release and games. I probably missed something, but I was only there for a couple of hours, and while the event started at 10:00 AM, it lasted late into the night.

I got there around 2:00 which means I arrived well after the brunch was completed, but I was able to chat with a couple attendees that were still hanging out. Pancakes and stouts made up the primary part of the menu, which sounds like a pretty good way to start the day. Continue reading

Photos from the Inaugural Lite Fest at Three Weavers Brewing

These photos were taken Saturday evening at Three Weavers Brewing Company in Inglewood, where they hosted their first annual Lite Fest; a craft beer festival billed as the Champagne of Beer Festivals. The event showcased beers that were no higher than 5.0 ABV from more than 30 breweries. The ticketed event featured unlimited pours, a very nice souvenir glass, live music and food popups. Proceeds from the event went towards supporting the California Craft Brewers Association.

Food was available from Breakfast Dreams and Tortas El Aguila. Live music was provided by LA Rockabilly band, Johnny Shakes & the CA Quakes, and Las Vegas based Punk Rock/Rock & Roll Rat Pack tribute band, Franks & Deans. Continue reading

Two Coast Brewing: A Taste of Germany in Gardena

These photos were taken Wednesday afternoon, when I visited Gardena’s newest craft brewery, Two Coast Brewing Company. I have been cyber-stalking Two Coast since the end of 2016, so when I recently noticed a Facebook post that screamed out, “They must have a tasting room coming soon,” I reached out to them for the first time in more than six years to see if I could swing by. I met with co-founders Roger Kunsemueller and Jan Dreier to get a little history as well as a look into the future.

When I arrived, Jan was busy keeping a cleaning mess under control, while Roger was milling grain. I took advantage of the time to walk around and grab photos of their 15bbl brewhouse and 30bbl fermenters as well as what will soon become the South Bay’s newest craft beer tasting room. Oh yeah, I may have tried a few of their brews Continue reading

Cellador Ales Relocates to Torrance

These photos were taken Friday, February 3 at Cellador Ales new blendery location at Smog City Brewing’s Wood Cellar, where I met up with Cellador’s sales manager, Alex Ourieff, to discuss what is new with Cellador Ales since they closed their tasting room in North Hills at the end of last year.

Those of us into sour ales were saddened last June when Kevin and Sara Osborne announced that their brewery/blendery and taproom would close at the end of 2022. According to Kevin’s announcement, it was a combination of Covid related “financial issues, lease issues, personal life changes, and more.” Continue reading

Meltdown 2023 at El Segundo Brewing

These photos were taken Saturday evening at the El Segundo Brewing Company’s brewery and tasting room where they held their annual Meltdown can release, with the release of Power Plant Triple IPA, Nuclear Power Plant Quad IPA, and Radioactive Fallout (Hazy) IPA. Food was available from Lower Case Deli who had a popup set up.

When I left Burnin’ Daylight’s 4th Anniversary celebration, I headed home to drop off the beer I purchased, then I headed over to El Segundo Brewing to check out their Meltdown celebration, specifically Power Plant, and if I had the opportunity, Nuclear Power Plant. Continue reading

Burnin’ Daylight 4th Anniversary Photos

These photos were taken Saturday afternoon at Burnin’ Daylight Brewing Company in Lomita, where the brewpub celebrated their fourth anniversary. The free-to-attend event featured 15 of their beers on tap, including their Burn Four Anniversary IPA, kitchen specials and live music by Vibe Tribe.

I have to admit, as I was uploading these photos to my hard drive, I could not figure out how I had somehow missed attending their second and third anniversary, then I remembered; COVID. I am guessing lockdowns prevented the second anniversary, and I know someone incorrectly advised me that nothing was scheduled last year. No matter, I made it yesterday and was immediately reminded of how much fun Burnin’ Daylight events are. Continue reading

Hermosa Brewing Torrance Now Open

These photos were taken on four separate visits to the new Hermosa Brewing Company location in Torrance, between July 30 and December 27, when I went to photo-document the build of their new production brewery and tasting room.

Hopefully you saw my post last week when I attended their soft open. At the time I said that the Torrance location should open within the next couple of weeks; well, the time has come. Continue reading
