Dust Bowl Brewing Co. announces the release of Prone Mega IPA, the latest addition to the company’s Limited portfolio. Available in 16oz. cans and draft, Prone offers IPA fans a big 14.5% ABV and bold 85 IBU. The beer delivers sweet fruit and berry notes from a blend of Gem, El Dorado and Mosaic hops.

Known for his expertise in brewing high-alcohol beers, Brewmaster Don Oliver shares some thoughts on his latest Mega intro, “When we first released Supine Mega IPA in 2020, I had already started on the recipe for Prone. Although not originally planned for release this year, there was a lot of excitement around the Mega IPA Series, so we chose to add Prone to the lineup. The triple dry-hopped Mega IPA should satisfy the fans of big beers with huge hop character.”

Prone is expected to hit retailer shelves in April primarily in California and parts of Nevada. The bright orange and green label mimics the popular Supine label, but Prone naturally showcases tigers in the prone position. Continue reading

Now in Cans from Dust Bowl Brewing

Dust Bowl Brewing Co. announces its first new release of 2021, California Golden Ale. The year-round beer fills yet another niche in the Northern California brewery’s growing portfolio.

“Blonde ales and lighter lagers have been gaining in popularity and they are always good performers at our taprooms,” shares longtime Brewmaster, Don Oliver. “Our range of beers had a good amount of lagers and IPAs, so the golden ale was a good compliment and brings more balance to our portfolio. It’s a clean, easy-drinking beer with a light fruitiness and low bitterness.”

California Golden Ale was first released in draft only in December 2020. While consumer exposure was minimal due to the Pandemic on-premise restrictions, those consumers who picked up growlers or crowlers to go from Dust Bowl’s taprooms responded positively to the new release. California Golden Ale will reach the promising off-premise sector in late January. Available in 12oz. 6 pack cans, and 5.2 gallon and 15.5 gallon kegs, California Golden Ale is an ideal gateway beer at 4.5% ABV and 10 IBUs. It is sold through Dust Bowl’s network of wholesalers servicing California and Nevada, and at Dust Bowl Brewing Co. taprooms located in Turlock and Monterey, California. Continue reading

January 13, 2020 (Turlock, California) Dust Bowl Brewing Co. announces the release of Supine Mega India Pale Ale, its first new specialty package in 2020. Sold in pint cans and draft, Supine is available in on- and off-premise accounts throughout California and parts of Nevada, and at all Dust Bowl Brewing Co. taprooms in Turlock and Monterey, California.

Brewmaster Don Oliver shares his thoughts on this aggressively hopped beer: “We brew a lot of big beers at Dust Bowl. Supine Mega IPA follows in the footsteps of Dump Truck of the Gods Mega IPA, but we push the beer further with a 14.4% alcohol content and a bigger hop load (85 IBU) featuring Apollo, Amarillo, Citra and Mosaic hops.”

Champagne yeast helps bring this massive IPA into the Mega category. Citrus and tropical notes fade to the background behind big notes of stone fruit. Continue reading

Dust Bowl Brewing Introduces Dump Truck of the Gods

Dump Truck of the Gods released by Dust Bowl Brewing

Dust Bowl Brewing Co. continues to expand its specialty can portfolio with the introduction of Dump Truck of the Gods. The Mega IPA was first offered in draft in August 2014 and rolls out to retailers this month in the 16 oz./pint can format. It’s on the schedule for another run in May. Dump Truck of the Gods features a hefty 11.7% ABV and 130 IBUs. Huge aromas of candied orange, papaya and a little booziness accompany the full-bodied, caramel malt sweetness.

Brewmaster, Don Oliver, reflects on the first brew, “In the quest for ever hoppier beers, I was formulating two brews, one a standard IPA with the largest hop load we had tried, which also incorporated hop extracts, and a double IPA using hops named after gods – Apollo, Zeus and Merkur. That exercise lead me to combine the two ideas for a high-gravity Mega IPA, which quickly became a hit at our taprooms.” Continue reading

Dust Bowl Brewing Introduces Pancho Imperial Stout

Pancho Imperial Stout

Pancho Imperial Stout available in cans

Dust Bowl Brewing Co. kicks off 2019 with the introduction of Pancho Imperial Stout, available in 16 oz. cans and draft. The limited release brew is made with cacao nibs, Ancho chiles, and cinnamon. Pancho offers a smooth finish despite the hefty 10.1% Alcohol by Volume.

“As we approach the colder winter months, a big stout with depth of character seems appropriate,” shares Don Oliver, Brewmaster. “We follow the trend of the pastry stout and offer a lower bitterness imperial stout with a heavy punch of chocolate, cinnamon, and a subtle layer of roasted Ancho chiles.”

Featuring bright colors, the Pancho label showcases Dust Bowl Brewing Co.’s refreshed logo nestled in the company’s new specialty can label system. The story of Pancho is nearly as good as the beer itself. Founder Brett Tate is never short on family tales. According to Tate family “history,” Brett’s great-great uncle went looking for Pancho Villa in the early 1920s, most likely to collect the bounty. He never returned and his fate remains a mystery to this day. Brett likes to think he got distracted by something (or someone!) and enjoyed a long life on the beach of Mexico. Continue reading

Craft Beer Tour 2018: Lost Coast Brewery and Dust Bowl Brewing

These photos were taken Saturday and Sunday, October 6 and 7, which were days 20 and 21 of my Craft Beer Tour 2018.

When I left Oregon I set my GPS for Eureka so that I could visit one of my oldest friends (Cathy) and see what had changed in their craft beer world since my last visit in 2010. It turns out not much has changed; in fact the only brewery I could find was still Lost Coast Brewery, which is where we went since Cathy does not drink but would join me for lunch.

Lost Coast Brewery is a brewpub that was founded in 1990; they have since opened a larger brewery and tasting room in 2014. I went to Lost Coast in 2010, but I didn’t remember them being so crowded back then; business must be good. Continue reading

Dust Bowl Brewing Introduces Mouthful of Miracles

mouthful of miracles IPA

Now available from Dust Bowl Brewing

Dust Bowl Brewing announced recently the release of Mouthful of Miracles, the Northern California craft brewery’s first Brut IPA. The new limited release beer comes in big at 8.5% Alcohol by Volume. Mouthful of Miracles is packaged in 16 oz. cans and draft.

“For our first release of a canned Brut IPA, we chose to take it to the imperial end of the style,” shares Don Oliver, Brewmaster. “At 8.5% alcohol, it still has a very dry finish and a crisp hop note with grapefruit and passion fruit up front.”

With Brut IPAs trending, the timing was welcomed by Dust Bowl Brewing Co.’s wholesaler network. According to Founder and Owner, Brett Tate, “Mouthful of Miracles is just a glimpse of what’s ahead for us. Now that we are settled into our new brewery, we are able to manage growing production of our core brands while being nimble in the specialty category. This keeps the portfolio interesting to our distributors and consumers alike.” Continue reading
