This article has taken me over five years to put together. The first photos were taken in September 2018, with the most recent ones being taken Friday afternoon.
Ever since 2017, I have been suggesting that Port Town Brewing should open within the next year. Well, I am happy to announce that they are finally open! Continue reading
Yep, today is the 11th anniversary of the launch of CraftBeerGuy.com. It has been a pretty fun journey and I thank those of you that have come along for the ride.
The following is a re-post of my first article here. Cheers! Continue reading
In case you were not aware, today is the beginning of the 19th annual American Craft Beer Week, which runs from May 13 through May 19. I actually started photo-documenting my American Craft Beer Week adventures in 2012 when it was the 7th annual American Craft Beer Week (ACBW7). My girlfriend at the time had recently changed the medications she was using and was now allowed to drink beer, so we took advantage of it.
We spent each day trying to find award winning beers, starting our journey at Naja’s Place. I think this is when Tanya discovered she was into Imperial stouts, especially of the barrel-aged persuasion. Continue reading
So, this Sunday is Mother’s Day, you probably do not want to forget that. The following Sunday is May 19 which is the date of the 11th South Bay Beer & Wine Festival and I am here to suggest you definitely do not want to miss that; in fact a ticket might be the ideal Mother’s Day present, depending on the mom.
I will admit that I might not typically write a second article about an upcoming event, but I have been seeing Facebook updates about the event that actually caused me to text Beer Paper’s Daniel “DFD” Drennon to ask if he was still a beer consultant for the event; it was so good I had to compliment him, and show you who is “on tap” to be pouring. For my ease, they are in alphabetical order. Continue reading
These photos were taken Saturday afternoon at Three Weavers brewing Company in Inglewood, where beer drinkers and vendors gathered to celebrate Cambodian New Year. The event featured a lot of Cambodian foods, including barbecued meats and a surprisingly large amount of sweets. One of the featured food popups was Battambong BBQ, aka The Cambodian Cowboy, with whom Three Weavers did a collaboration brew called Cambodian Cowboy IPA.
Now, for those that wonder about such things, it turns out that Cambodian New Year is actually a three-day event that takes place in the middle of April. Even when I was asking Cambodian vendors about their New Year traditions, none of them even mentioned that it was actually a few weeks ago. Oh well. Continue reading
These photos were taken Friday afternoon in Anaheim, where I met a couple friends for visits to Brewery X and Bottle Logic Brewing. This was my first visit to Brewery X, and the first time in almost 10 years that I had visited Bottle Logic.
I was joined by my friends Jay and his bride, Diana, who I have been friends with long before I became The Craft Beer Guy. In fact, I consider Jay one of my success stories in that when we first met, he was all about Coors Light; now he visits breweries on a regular basis and I even spotted them at a craft beer festival a few years ago. Jay and I have been talking about meeting up for a while now; we finally made that happen on Friday. Naturally, I brought Roxy with me. Continue reading
These photos were taken Saturday afternoon in Hawthorne, at the Common Space Brewery, where they were joined by several hundred fans as they celebrated their sixth anniversary. It was a very pleasant afternoon which included not only nice weather, but several food popups, live music, a DJ, some very nice beer, and lots of doggies.
The food options were pretty diverse, with options provided by Yakitori Cartel, Enduro Pizza, and Bootsy’s BBQ. I have to admit, I almost regretted bringing Roxy (my new dog) because I would have loved to try some of that soul food from Bootsy’s but it just would not be fair to her since she seems to have a very sensitive stomach. My loss, it looked and smelled great. Continue reading
These photos were taken Saturday evening at the 2024 El Segundo Beer, Wine & Spirits Festival, which was presented by The Zimmerman Automobile Driving Museum and the El Segundo Rotary Club. The charitable event featured local craft beer, wines from a couple wineries, spirits like vodka and tequila (that’s what I noticed anyway), and food from probably a dozen local eateries. There was also live music, a wandering magician, and a silent auction.
The breweries I noticed were El Segundo Brewing, Boardroom Brewery, Five Point Five Brewing, and Eureka Brewing. There was some amazing smells wafting around from local restaurants; I got some tasty samples from Raising Canes, Marmalade Cafe, and Mychal’s Learning Place. I was bummed that I was in a hurry because I really wanted to try a few others. Continue reading
These photos were taken Saturday afternoon at Smog City Brewing Company, in Torrance, where hundreds of friends, family, and fans gathered to celebrate Smog City’s 13th Anniversary. If you have ever attended a Smog City anniversary celebration in the past, you know that this was another very fun event.
I was there for the early portion of the event, which featured axe throwing for adults, and kids, as well as numerous food trucks/popups, pie throwing for charity, live music, the release of their 13th Anniversary IPA, and a special guest, my new dog, Roxy. Continue reading
These photos were taken early Saturday afternoon at Firestone Walker’s Venice/Marina del Rey location, The Propagator, where they celebrated The Propagator’s 8th Anniversary with a “Block Party” featuring beer and food specials, live music, a sensory challenge, and the release of their Gen-8 IPA.
I rode out there with my friend and mechanic to the craft beer stars, Mike Wondrash. We arrived shortly after they opened, and while the weather was a little brisk, with threatening skies, the outdoor patio was set up to handle the drizzle that might occur and while there were not exactly throngs in attendance, I would say a majority of them were hanging outside. Continue reading
