These photos were taken Friday afternoon at Five Point Five Brewing Company in El Segundo, when they officially opened their doors to the public, bringing El Segundo’s craft brewery count back up to four, joining El Segundo Brewing, Upshift Brewing, and Boardroom Brewery. Five Point Five is at the location previously occupied by Surfridge Brewing, and is now owned by the brewer for Surfridge, and his family.
Friday was their official Grand Opening, and while I arrived within the first couple of hours of their opening the doors, it was very well attended, not only by friends and family, but they also had attendees from El Segundo Brewing and Upshift, which is always a good sign, in my opinion.
As I approached the door Friday I could not help but notice the new mural decorating the front of the building, which will make it very difficult for you to miss the building; it definitely stands out. The second thing I noticed was the noise coming from inside; for being early on a Friday afternoon it sounded like they had a pretty good sized crowd already.
After saying hello to people I knew, and a few Craft Beer Guy fans I was introduced to, I grabbed photos of their three dog and family friendly patio areas then settled down to a flight consisting of their King Kolsch, I Love That for You blonde, Citrus Aftermath IPA, Hazy Daisy IPA, and their Pacific Standard IPA. Yeah, I finished up with the Tank Farm Imperial Stout, which may be my current favorite.
Now, those of you that have been paying close attention over the years may have picked up on the fact that I am not exactly what you might call a pizza fan; the one exception to that is a style I only learned of in 2019, Detroit Style pizza, which I became an immediate fan of, only to learn it is difficult to find someone that does it well.
The reason I even bring this up is that while Five Point Five plans to have food trucks in the future, one thing they apparently always plan on having available are personal pizzas from Pi LA. Now, I just visited their website for the first time and I see they describe their pizza as “Los Angeles Style” it was introduced to me as Detroit style. I had a piece and all I can say is if LA wants to share the style with Detroit that is okay with me. It was exactly what I look for in that style.
Five Point Five Brewing Company is located at 137 Nevada Street in El Segundo. Their current hours are 4:00 to 9:00 PM Tuesday through Thursday, noon to 10:00 PM Friday and Saturday, and noon to 8:00 PM Sunday. Cheers!
