These photos were taken Saturday afternoon at Rancho Los Cerritos Historic Site in Long Beach, where Craft Beer LB held their Second Annual Craft Beer LB Homebrew Invitational. The event featured brews from more than 40 homebrewers, a Pro Brewers lounge featuring local Long Beach breweries, food trucks, live music, games, a Kid Zone where parents could drop off the kids for a bit, and a bicycle valet for those that rode their bikes there. Proceeds went to benefit Rancho Los Cerritos.
The Pro Brewers lounge featured brews from Ten Mile Brewing, Syncopated Brewing, Ambitious Ales, Beachwood Brewing, Trademark Brewing, Ficklewood Ciderworks, Long Beach Beer Lab, and Altar Society Brewing.
Food was available from Shady Grove Foods, Dutch’s Brew House, Leaf Over Beef, Fuzion Cuisine, and Fluffy’s Sno-Balls. I apologize but I did not catch the names of the musical performers.
As I write this it is 60 degrees out and rainy, which goes to show that the weather gods were definitely smiling on us yesterday, especially when you consider that just a few days earlier I was asking Dennis if this would be a “rain or shine” event. It was the first time in quite a while that I can recall being somewhere with temperatures in the mid-70s. I know I am not the only one that got slightly sunburned.
The Craft Beer LB Homebrew Invitational is both a festival and competition. There was a BJCP beer judging competition performed by local brewers and judges, with the winner of the Judge’s Choice Award getting to brew their award-winning recipe with Ten Mile Brewing and will be featured at the Craft Beer LB Fest on September 16. Each attendant received two votes towards the People’s Choice Award.
The winners of the Judge’s Choice are:
1. #23 Tom Fontes – International Lager – They will get to brew with Ten Mile Brewing
2. #5 David Dillon – IPA with chili
3. Andy Trejo – American Pale Ale
The winners of the People’s Choice are:
1. John Aproda – German Pilsner
2. Cyrus Baluyot – Ube Beer
3. Kulturaz – American Pale Ale
All in all, this was a great time; nice beer, beautiful weather, and fun people made for another fun day. Congratulations to Dennis of Craft Beer LB, his entire crew, vendors, and homebrewers for putting on another great event. I look forward to the next one. Cheers!
