These photos were taken Tuesday, March 21, at the Safe Credit Union Convention Center where the expo portion of the 2023 California Craft Beer Summit was held. The day featured speeches, educational panels, vendors, lunch, a Press Reception, and the Brewers VIP Reception.
My day started off by attending the Opening Session which began with the introduction of the CCBA Board of Directors with a rundown of what the CCBA has accomplished and what was planned for the future. This was followed up by the keynote address from Firestone Walker’s own David Walker, who gave a brief history of Firestone Walker along with his perspective of what the craft beer industry should expect in coming years.
There were several educational panels that covered a number of topics including brewing and marketing techniques, branding and a legislative update. There were literally topics of interest important to breweries old and new, whether they are turning out 500 barrels a year, or 100,000 barrels.
The expo floor had vendors providing everything from hops, grains, and canning lines to financing and virtually everything craft beer related in between. Naturally, several breweries had tasting booths set up so there was no danger of anyone getting thirsty. During the break from the educational panels, a nice lunch was available.
As the afternoon began winding down a Press Reception for those of us in the media was held, with plenty of California craft beer available.
When our reception ended, we were invited to attend the Brewers VIP Reception which included even more beer and a wide selection of appetizers to help soak up the beer, while giving the attendees a chance to relax, network, and catch up with old friends.
The Brewers Cup of California awards ceremony, presented by The Sacramento Area Brewers Guild, was held off-site after the Brewers Reception, but I did not make it due to the fact that I was burned out and the wet weather was messing with my joints, so I stayed in for the night. Congratulations to the winners. Cheers!
